What is a Bulb Cap?
The bulb cap is the metal part of the bulb that pushes, twists or clicks into the light fixture. For example, you may be familiar with bayonet style bulb caps or screw-type bulb caps. Depending on the type and size of light fitting you have available, we have the matching bulb caps you need to help you achieve the best from your indoor and outdoor lighting projects.
Types of Bulb Cap by Fitting
Different light fittings may found throughout a property. You must purchase the correct bulb cap relevant to your fitting (mismatched bulb caps and fittings will not connect).
Types of bulb cap include:
- Bayonet
Bayonet bulb caps are the push and twist style of bulb cap. Depending on the size of the bayonet fitting you have available, choose between a 15 mm diameter bulb cap (Bayonet B15) and 22 mm diameter bulb cap (Bayonet B22).
- Edison Screw
Edison screw bulb caps are the screw-in style of bulb cap. Depending on the size of the Edison screw fitting you have available, choose between a 14 mm diameter bulb cap (E14 Bulbs) and 27 mm diameter bulb cap (E27 Bulbs).
- ‘G’ Style Bulbs
G style light fittings accommodate bi-bin bulb caps. Depending on the light fitting you have available, you may require push-in G4 Bulbs or G9 Bulbs.
Alternatively, you may require GU10 Bulbs, which have a bi-pin cap with a small twist-in ‘foot’ at the end of each pin.
- MR16 LED Bulbs
MR16 Bulbs have a bi-bin cap similar to GU10 bulbs. The main difference is that MR16 bulbs run off 12 V (ideal for downlighting powered by an LED driver), whereas GU10 bulbs run off mains 240 V.
